Piano lessons for everyone

I offer piano lessons for all ages and levels in-person with vaccinated students at my home in Northeast Minneapolis and remotely via Zoom.

What you can expect

I aim to provide students with a solid foundation in piano technique while developing a rich understanding of music through repertoire, theory, history, and composition in a diversity of styles. Working together we strive to discover and draw out your inner musician.

However, if you just want to learn how to play Ozzy’s Crazy Train, I’m on board for that, too.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been playing for a few years I am excited to welcome you to my studio!

Testimonials

Marty always took into account what I wanted to learn. When I wanted to learn more about music theory as a whole he was happy to teach lessons about more than just playing a piece of music. Overall, he is considering and encouraging teacher and I would 100% recommend him!

Marty has been working with our son for over two years, and we are very happy to have him as a piano teacher! Marty has a gentle, friendly demeanor and a very effective approach to instruction. These lessons have helped to deepen our son’s love of music, and working with him has been a huge confidence builder. Our son looks forward to their sessions and has come to really adore Marty.

Five Stars; we loved having Marty as our daughter’s piano teacher! He was so patient, kind and funny with her. He was punctual in person (when there was such a time) and on Zoom, and she really enjoyed her lessons. He delivered well rounded lessons, a mixture of theory, scales, encouraging her to compose her own songs, and brought her music for songs she wanted to learn. On top of all that he is an amazing pianist, vocalist and organist. We wholeheartedly recommend Marty McGinn!

Meet your teacher

I began teaching piano after earning my masters degree in music composition from Mills College in 2005. Around that time I also began playing piano professionally in a variety of settings; accompanying for various churches, collaborating with bands, and performing original music as a solo artist.

I am passionate about sharing my love and knowledge of music with children and adults alike!
